I am delighted that Waterfront Action, Inc. reflects the collective
vision and effort of so many committed supporters of our region's
special asset. The Steering Committee put in long hours coordinating
the merger of the Waterfront Coalition and Waterfront Roundtable. Now,
they are guiding and assisting in building our Board of Directors.
Our region's waterfront can be a point of pride for
us all. As we look back, we see highlights such as the international
Waterfront Center Conference (2000), the Head of the Estuary races
annually, the Canoe and Kayak Olympic Trials (2004). Looking forward,
we see the promise of a revitalized estuary and Lake Merritt, together
with many advances in public spaces and access. Community support
for our waterfront is highlighted by the passage of Measure
DD, which provides the resources needed to stimulate progress.
I am excited to take an active role in these developments and to see the
vision of the Estuary Policy Plan unfold.
